That depends. If they just complimented me, I will think they are just trying to butter me up to get a follow.

If they say something meaningful, funny, or politely argumentative, then yes, I appreciate it. "Great job!" gets a "meh" reaction from me but if the comment gives me a chuckle or something to think about, I will be interested to check their profile and perhaps follow.
