The Great Self Checkout Dilemma
I don’t steal work from checkout people
I don’t buy food at supermarkets anyway because that costs waitstaff their jobs. And steals trade from the local farm stand.
I don’t own a car because that steals work from Uber and Lyft drivers.
I don’t own a TV because the local theater group needs my support.
I don’t go to movies because we must support the authors.
I don’t own a coffee maker because that cuts into the coffee shop’s business.
My great grandfather wouldn’t ride a train because there were steamboat workers whose livelihood was threatened. He wouldn’t ride a horse because shoemakers need their income.
Look what happened when we started buying newspapers: the town crier lost his job!
Electric lights? What about the candlemakers?
Central heating? The woodchoppers will lose their income! And the chimney sweeps!
A refrigerator? What about the ice cutters?
And those self checkouts? What about the people who build them, install them, service them?
