The iPhone 14 is a Beautiful Beast
Just don’t look at the back
Look at that always-on lock screen. Is that classy or what? It makes me think I should get a haircut, put on a suit, shine my shoes, and make a reservation at a very fancy restaurant! I’ll leave the phone out on the table while my wife and I dine by candlelight.
Always on?
By the way, did you know that the iPhone 14 always-on display is not necessarily always on? I noticed this the other morning because I had left the phone on the kitchen table overnight. As I approached, I noticed that the screen was totally black. I later found out that this could be because I have an Apple Watch. Apparently, if your watch is some distance away from the phone, the phone notices and will shut off its display to save battery.
If you have turned on a sleep schedule in the Health app, you won’t even need an Apple Watch for the display to turn off by itself — it will turn off at bedtime if you have stopped handling your phone. There are also a number of other situations or conditions where Apple says the display will go full black.
