They Wanted to Shake Up Washington

Then the cover came off the blender and made a big mess

I’ve been reading about Trump defectors. Many of them say they wanted to “shake up Washington” in 2016, which is a sentiment I understood. Had Trump run as a Democrat, I might have briefly considered him. I would have quickly realized how wrong that idea was, of course.

Trump certainly shook things up. The problem is that he shook so hard that the cover came off and he made a mess of the kitchen. That’s what has upset those of us who didn’t vote for him: there is ground up food everywhere and we have a lot to clean up. The kitchen will not smell good for many years.

The defectors mention the same things I’d hold against Trump: cruelty, lies, the deaths from the pandemic, support of extremists, ties to Russia, the radical appointments, and so on; Trump shook too hard.

Ahh, I only wish there were more of them. I wish their friends would listen to them, but apparently shunning is the more common reaction.

It takes courage to change your mind about something like this. Intelligence and courage. Good on them.
