Today I happened to be looking up an obscure use of the Spanish subjunctive and learned that the British have mostly (or completely) abandoned the English subjunctive tense while Americans —well, some of us, anyway—still use it.

Is it true? My ears and eyes get assaulted by “Wish I was there!” and the like frequently. What do you observe in your editing work?
