We stopped Xmas gifts in 2004: “2004, gifts no more!” was the rallying cry of our younger child, drowning the protests of her older sister, reminding us all of the stress that Xmas shopping brought, and the gifts that none of us really wanted.

We get together for a meal, but depending on other obligations to spouses or friends, that gathering could be weeks before Xmas or weeks after.

Effectively, we nullified Xmas entirely.
