Why would Republicans support Trump when his poll numbers are falling?

It has to be that they indivually fear his base. His picks might easily sweep the primaries. If the incumbents remain loyal, maybe he will pick them and not have to battle the Q people. Or so they hope?

I can't see how this makes sense in any other way.
