Why You REALLY Want to Use the New Medium Lists

Reader or writer, you want this

Medium has introduced a new feature called “Lists”. Here are my lists:

So why would you bother with making your own?

For Writers

Lists let you quickly organize your stories by whatever categories you want. Unlike publications, you can add a story to multiple lists. Unlike tags and publications, you can have many lists.

Take a quick look above at what I have started with mine. I have over 400 stories to go through, but the results will be worth it.

After I get done, I’ll return to those stories and add links to the lists they are in so that related stories are grouped together.

For Readers

If a writer here has taken the time to make lists, you’ll see a new Lists link on their profile page, like this. Look for it; it can help you find what you want and help you organize what you want to read later.

A work in progress

Right now, lists have no reordering ability (correction: there is that ability). Stories appear in lists starting with what you’ve most recently added and the list of Lists seems to be the same. I hope Medium fixes that.

How?

It couldn’t be easier. Just click on the little List icon and put it where you want, even creating new lists on the fly. You can make lists private too: I have a Needs Review list for stories I noticed need some work.
