Yes, some people are upset about pubs closing. Some even say they are thinking of leaving.

We'd miss you. I would, certainly. But I didn't follow PSILY and I don't follow any pubs - I follow *people*, people I enjoy reading.

It should be obvious that Medium is deemphasizing publications. I think that's smart. Pubs can be a jumbled mess unless their theme is tightly constrained but if it is, there won't be much there.

Member pubs were a bad idea from day one.

I choose to follow people because I like their thoughts, even when the subject matter isn't high up in my interests.

For those who want a more narrow focus, tags are a far better answer than pubs. Where should I go to read about iPhones? In pubs, who knows - a post could be in dozens of pubs, but the tag will get me the results I want.

I don't need pubs. I don't like pubs, and from what Ev says, I think he's moving in that direction.
