You know, I thought most of this stuff was built in, but I've recently been using an app where CMD-F does NOT go to the search box. They HAVE a search box, but it's not tied to CMD-F. Oddly, if you look at Edit-Find, it leads to a submenu with Find, Find next, and the rest all there with the command keys -- but those won't take you to the search box either.
