You Need to Do More than a Will, Inactive Account Managers, and Legacy Contacts
Dealing with death can be stressful. Don’t make it harder for the people you love.
I have protected my digital assets. I have set up Google to notify my children if my account is inactive for three months. I’d expect that they would know of my death or inability to use my accounts long before that, but this also gives them access to my accounts, which could be helpful. On Facebook, I’ve set one of them as a “legacy contact “, which will let them post notifications to my friends. If a service I use has any method for passing access to others, I’ve done it.
I hope that you have already taken action to protect your digital assets. If not, please google for “Preserve Digital Assets” or use the links below. This subject has been covered exhaustively in many places. Your financial advisor and lawyer may have also mentioned this to you. There are even people who specialize in helping you do this.
